The AIM Smoothie--It’s a smooth road.

The two AIM SlimMetrix products were designed to target important but often neglected aspects of weight loss: Getting adequate fiber and protein, boosting metabolism, supporting blood sugar, and targeting body composition.

Although they are best used together and in conjunction with the AIM SlimMetrix Weight-Loss Partnership, they can also be used on their own. The smoothie in particular can be used to complement your meals, or even as a filling “snack.”

The AIM SlimMetrix smoothie The AIM SlimMetrix smoothie combines up to 12 grams of fiber, up to 8 grams of vegetable protein, and ½ cup of blueberries for a product that helps balance blood sugar levels, increase energy, and manage weight—and it tastes great!

Fiber North Americans consume only about 10 to 15 grams of fiber per day while most health practitioners recommend between 20 and 35 grams per day. Let’s look at why fiber is important in weight loss.

First of all, fiber gives you a feeling of fullness, so you are apt to eat less. But it does much more. Foods high in fiber have fewer calories than those that are low in fiber. A slice of white bread, for example, contains 63 calories while a slice of whole-wheat bread contains 56. White rice has 92 calories per gram while brown rice has only 86. Although this may seem like only a small difference, in weight loss, numbers add up. If you eat bread and rice every day but eat the darker varieties that contain fewer calories, over a year, you would consume 4,700 fewer calories—that’s more than a pound fewer calories.

Fiber may also help with weight loss because it “pushes” calories out of the digestive tract before they are absorbed in the body. When eating a typical, modern, low-fiber diet, the average person absorbs some 93 percent of the calories in the foods they eat. By increasing the amount of fiber you eat, especially through fruits and vegetables, the rate by which calories are absorbed drops to some 91 percent. And, if you switch to whole-wheat bread and add other grain products, the rate drops to 88 percent.

Again, a small number. But, consider this: For a woman eating 1,800 calories per day, a two percent reduction in calorie absorption (from 93 to 91 percent) translates into a loss of almost four pounds per year. A five percent reduction (from 93 to 88 percent) would be a loss of nine pounds per year!

Fiber also contributes indirectly to weight loss. It helps clean the digestive tract and rid the body of toxins. This helps “tune” the body for the better foods and supplements you will use as part of the AIM SlimMetrix Weight-Loss Partnership.

Fiber also plays an important role in blood sugar (glucose) levels. Fiber slows the digestive process and because of this, the carbohydrates we eat are converted less quickly to blood sugar. This results in a steadier rise in blood sugar levels. When blood sugar levels are steady, we use the energy produced more efficiently and there is less left to be turned into fat. Protein Although protein is not considered of primary importance in many weight management programs, it does play an important role. Protein forms muscle, and muscle is the body’s premier fat burner. Simply put, the more muscle we have, the easier it is for us to burn fat. Adding more protein to your diet, combined with performing strength exercises, can help you build the muscle you need to help burn fat.

Most North Americans get their protein from meat. However, this can be a red light for weight loss because of the amount of fat meat contains. One of the keys to weight loss, then, is to cut down on the amount of meat we eat. Incorporating the regular AIM SlimMetrix smoothie into your diet is the ideal way to make up for loss in protein from meat as it contains eight grams of protein per serving—16 percent of the U.S. government’s Recommended Daily Allowance.

Oligosaccharides and fructan The AIM SlimMetrix smoothie contains a special blend of oligosaccharides and fructan, which are interrelated types of fiber and prebiotics—this is the “food” that our “good bacteria” consume. These fibers pass through the digestive tract into the large intestine where they are digested by the resident good bacteria, and in doing so, help restore our bacteria balance (which can also indirectly aid in metabolism, digestion, and elimination). They also provide sweetness without increasing blood sugar levels. This may also curb cravings for sweet snacks. The AIM SlimMetrix smoothie The AIM SlimMetrix smoothie comes in two formulas: regular protein and low protein. The regular-protein smoothie contains eight grams of protein per serving, while the low-protein smoothie contains two grams of protein per serving. We recommend starting with the regular-protein smoothie for your weight management needs and switching to the low-protein smoothie for maintenance. As well, those who continue to eat meat products and continue to consume higher amounts of protein should use the low-protein smoothie.

The protein in the AIM SlimMetrix smoothie is derived from soy protein isolate. It contains all the essential amino acids and most of the nonessential amino acids that the body needs. The body is able to digest 97 percent of this protein for direct use in muscle building and strengthening.

The regular-protein AIM SlimMetrix smoothie contains the following amino acids: alanine, arginine, aspartic acid, cysteine, glutamic acid, glycine, histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, proline, serine, threonine, tryptophan, tyrosine, and valine.
